About
Hi, I'm Abisola Abdul, and I'm 14 years old. I started sewing when I was 9, and ever since, I've been passionate about using fashion as a way to connect with my heritage and express creativity. When I was 13, I launched my own business, Jashila Couture, where I design and create beautiful garments using West African fabrics.
For me, sewing is not only about making clothes, but also about highlighting yourself through your creations. I’ve always been inspired by the history and vibrant artistry behind African fabric, and I want to share that with the world. Through my business, I aim to raise awareness of the talented fabric makers across West Africa whose main skill is in creating these unique materials.
At Jashila Couture, I focus on celebrating diverse cultures and encouraging people to embrace them through the clothes they wear. I believe fashion is a powerful tool for empowerment, and it’s important to support artisans who keep these traditions alive. I hope that by wearing West African fabrics, people can feel more connected to the culture and history behind them.
My goal is to inspire others, especially young girls like me, to appreciate the beauty of different cultures and to show that diversity is something to be proud of. Through my work, I want to empower people to express themselves confidently, while also helping to preserve and honor the hard-work of West African fabric makers.
